The Crucible - The Tragic Hero in John Proctor
Arthur Millers The Crucible, follows many characters as they make out their way through the sloppiness and madness of the capital of Oregon cr unitary trials Â. jakes Proctor, a successful, local anaesthetic farmer, is a central approach pattern in the play, and is arguably one of the great tragic heroes in theatrical literature. Proctors inner scrape are laid unembellished before the audience, and in the last scenes of the play, every character is rump to the recent mistakes and sins he has committed.\n halfway through the first act, John arrives in the dark of nightmagazine in a forest clearing outside Salem village. His intent is to confront Abigail Williams, the untried woman who he had presbyopic lusted after and for whom he ultimately surrendered his desires. Although he is married to a faithful wife, Abigail is determined to cajole Proctors love - or at least his sexual companionship. duration in the forest glen, she states, I know how you clutched my back ba throom your house and sweated identical a st whollyion when ever I come near! (Miller, Pg.1108).\nIn the quote above, Abigail introduces Johns fatal blot that will follow him end-to-end the play. John vied with becoming what he absolutely hated, a hypocrite. He had to overcome his loneliness and zest for companionship with Abigail in pasture to free himself from his sins. Abby, I may think of you softly from time to time. But I will cut off my extend before Ill ever irritate for you again. Wipe it out of mind. We never touched, Abby. (Miller, Pg. 1109). This quote describes Johns internal struggle and how hes trying refrain from sinning, while every other character, like Abigail for example, tends to be giving in to the sin that tempts them.\nAs action Two of the play begins, we look Johns wife Elizabeth. Were introduced to the dynamic of their consanguinity and how faulty it is. Spare me! You pass on nothin and forgive nothin. Learn charity, woman.
